Have you seen gas prices lately??

One of your first posts were about filling your gas tank. Now, with the new gas price in the article, find how much it would cost to fill your tank. Find the difference between what you would have paid a month ago to now. One more thing - find me the lowest local gas price in Lake County!



With the new gas prices it would cost me $22.00 to fill up my gas tank. The equation I used was 10 gallons x $2.20=$22.00. With the gas prices before it cost me $34.00 to fill up my tank. The difference between the two prices is $12.00. I saved $12.00 with the lower gas prices. The lowest gas price in lake county is $1.97.



Now, although I actually don't mind filling my 12 gallon tank for $1.94 a gallon, I read the article below to learn more about why gas prices are falling. Check it out, especially paragraph 4. Write a paragraph about this article and what you learned.

I learned many things about why gas prices are falling and how the economy relates to gas prices and the consumption of gas. 60% of gas consumption is used to drive to work. I also learned that for every $1.00 decline in gas prices, U.S. consumers save $1 billion dollars. The last time gas prices declined so dramatically was in the early 1980s and the prices of gas stayed like this for a decade and a half. Something else new that I learned about China is that about 25,000 new cars hit the streets every day. I learned some interesting facts about China and the U.S.

Assignment #8

Something that was made clearer to me is multiplying polinomials with algebra tiles. One of the websites helped me to understand this concept. Something new I learned was that polynomial functions are a form of smooth functions.

1)The article I chose was "Hybrid vs. fuel efficient cars." I chose this article because my mom owns a hybrid and I wanted to see if a fuel efficient car was better than a hybrid.

3)From reading this article I learned how hybrids are specialized vehicles and require more maintenance than other cars.

1)The article I chose was "Shutting off Water Leaks." I chose this article because I like the summer and this article reminds me of the summer.
2)This article relates to my family and me because earlier this year our sink had a leak.
3)From this article I learned a tip on how to save money. When washing your car you can fill up a bucket of water instead of letting the hose run the whole time.

This assignment is worth 15 points and will be due October 14, 2008. So, continuing on from Assignment #3, complete the following:

2) Let's say you are an "average" American based on that article. How many total miles are spent driving to work in one week?
3) Now, if you are like a typical American, you are doing more driving than just to work and back. In an average week, I drive around 350 miles per week! Use this equation, 350/mpg x P = T (mpg = whatever your car's mpg is, P = local gas price, T = total cost) to find out how much you will spend on gas in one week.

If I could get any car I wanted, I would get a Honda Civic Hybrid. My car would either be light blue or light green with a beige interior. I would also have a GPS navigational system so I wouldn't get lost while I was driving. I would buy this car because it is a hybrid and hybrids don't pollute the world as much and I would get great gas mileage. I also like this car because it is not too small and it is not too big. My gas tank would hold ten gallons. I would get forty-five miles to the gallon. It would cost me $34.40 to fill up my tank.

I think this blog will help many people in math class. We can discuss math techniques and homework. It will help me because I can ask my classmates for help or ideas in math class. I think the point of this blog is to be able to use technology in school and still do school work. This is one of the most fun things I've done in math class.
